About the Artist

'A Queer Pilgrimage’ is an ongoing project from artist's El Lanham and Tom Maryniak that explores LGBTQ+ history through screen print based illustrations.

Inspired by their interests in printmaking, history and storytelling, the pilgrimage spans hundreds of years, transporting us from public demonstrations, such as The Gay Liberation Front’s first march in 1970, to the Dilly Boys of Piccadilly, with stories ranging from the bleak to the bawdy.

The Rainbow Collective is delighted to partner with ‘A Queer Pilgrimage’ to supply fine art print reproductions of their beautiful artworks.

In the 1970s there were few options for a gay night out. The more distinguished gay might find themselves in a member’s club, while your average homosexual of a lower social standing would more likely find themselves in a dive bar - probably underground with a small and sticky dance floor. 

The year 1976 changed all that with the arrival of ‘Bang’ - London's first gay superclub. ‘Bang’ took its inspiration from the already established gay clubs of L.A, San Francisco and New York and was held at the Sundowner, a converted cinema on Charing cross road. The venue had 1000-plus capacity and a sound system which could do justice to the hot, new disco imports flooding in from the U.S. With a glittering roll call of DJs including Gary London, Talullah and Norman Scott, along with some impressive and dramatic lighting effects, it appealed to a broad spectrum of queers.

How long will my print last?

We use museum-quality materials. Under normal indoor conditions, your artwork is designed to last for decades without noticeable fading.

While no print should be placed in prolonged direct sunlight, our inks and materials offer excellent resistance to light exposure.

How easy is it to hang the prints?
