Landscape (Knight) (2019) by David Lavine

Landscape (Knight) (2019) by David Lavine

394 reviews
Artist: David Lavine

Medium: Hand-cut paper collage, mixed media

In Landscape (Knight), David Lavine sets a fallen warrior against a serene blue sky, his body draped across a strip of ornate floral tapestry. A recurring motif in his Landscape works, the juxtaposition of two cut elements with a straight - or slightly angled - horizon invites layered readings; here, the flowers might suggest a bed of blooms or a flowered expanse of land. Hand-cut from vintage printed sources, the piece balances drama and stillness, myth and domesticity - while the knight’s sheath points suggestively upwards, adding a cheeky undertone to this oddly tender tableau.
